Corrective Make-up To Suit Your Face Shape

Corrective make-up techniques should be used to balance facial features while emphasizing your best qualities. Applied in the correct way, it can also be used to draw attention away from problem areas such as skin conditions or less desirable features while creating an illusion of the perfect face shape.
You should however, have realistic expectations as to what can be achieved through the use of corrective make-up. There is far more scope when using dramatic fashion or photographic make-up as you have the opportunity of using lighting and stronger coloured products to your advantage. With day wear you are limited to these skillful tricks and the variety of looks that can be achieved.
Following my basic guidelines will help you to determine where to apply blusher, shader and highlighter to achieve the 'perfect oval' face shape.

Your Face Shape: Oval
Aim: To balance  contours and accentuate bone structure.

Technique:
Highligher - This is to be applied above your cheekbones.
Blusher - Blusher should be blended upwards towards the temples and along the cheekbones.
Shader -  Shader is to be applied below your cheekbones.

Your Face Shape: Round
Aim: To reduce width from the temples and sides of the face while creating the illusion of length down the centre.

Technique:
Highlighter - This should be subtly blended in a narrow strip down the centre of the face.
Blusher - Blush application needs to be high on the cheekbones and up towards the temples.
Shader - Blend over your temples and the lower jaw.

Your Face Shape: Pear Shaped
Aim: To reduce the width of the lower face while creating the illusion of width to the forehead and emphasizing cheekbones.

Technique:
Highlighter - This should be applied either side of the forehead.
Blusher - Blush is applied along the cheekbones and towards the temples or alternatively, to the fuller area of the cheeks.
Shader - The sides of the chin and lower jaw should both be shaded.

Your Face Shape: Square
Aim: To reduce width from the forehead and lower face while softening the jaw line.

Technique:
Shader - Use shader to blend over the lower jaw and either side of the forehead.
Blusher - This is to be applied upwards under the cheekbones and towards the temples or, to the fuller area of the cheeks.

Your Face Shape: Heart Shaped
Aim: To widen the lower half of the face while reducing the width of the forehead.

Technique:
Highlighter - Apply to the angles of the lower jaw.
Blusher - As with square face shapes, this should be applied upwards under the cheekbones and towards the temples or, to the fuller area of the cheek.
Shader - Application should be to the temples and either side of the forehead.

Your Face Shape: Diamond Shaped
Aim: To widen the forehead and lower half of the face while reducing length and creating the illusion of fullness to the centre.

Technique:
Highlighter - Highlighter is applied to the lower jaw and sides of the temples.
Blusher - Blusher application is to be applied to the fuller area of the cheeks.
Shader - This is to be applied to the tip of the chin and narrowest area of the forehead.

Your Face Shape: Oblong Shaped
Aim: To create the illusion of fullness and extra width while reducing length.

Technique:
Highlighter - Apply to the temples and lower jaw.
Blusher - Blusher is to be applied along the cheekbones towards the ears or, to the fuller area of the cheeks.
